Grant Application

Application Instructions

Two important initial points:
1) Letters of inquiry and pre-screening are not used. This application is the appropriate first step in approaching the foundation regarding a grant request.
2) The foundation's administrative staff is happy to help with technical questions about the application process but is unable to provide guidance on the fit of the grantee or the structure/size of the request.

The Donchian Foundation's online grant application form has been divided into three sections: Organization Information; Contact Information; and Proposal Information. Each applicant must fill in all three sections prior to the submission of the application form. Within each section there are both required and optional fields (as demonstrated in the list of fields presented down below). Also required are the IRS Determination Letter, the organization budget and the proposal budget (if applicable). Please do not upload the entirety of your financial statements or annual report.

If you begin the application but are unable to complete it right away, a "Save" feature allows you to return to it at a later time. Saved applications can be found in your account, not through the application link.

Important Upload Considerations: Documents that you will be uploading with your application should be previewed on your system beforehand! Ensure that what you are sharing looks how you want it to appear to us. If you would like tips on formatting your budgets, please see our short Budget Prep Guide. PDFs are preferred, but most Microsoft Office formats are acceptable. Extensions that are not compatible with our system include "-.pages", "-.pub", "-.sheet", among others. If in doubt, convert to PDF format and upload that. KEY restrictions: do NOT upload documents with Javascript or macros [e.g. auto-printing, preview, etc.]! Also, do NOT upload oversized documents [letter size works best; treat legal as the maximum]. These issues will create problems with the processing of your application and may cause it to be rejected outright.

Troubleshooting: If you repeatedly encounter problems accessing the online application form, visit the FAQ's page. If you are still unable to resolve the trouble, you may use the Word document form (found on the Grant Requests page, under the Troubleshooting section) or you may send an email to Foundation Services with your responses to the questions listed below. In addition to the submission of this application information, please include your proposal budget (if applicable), organization budget, IRS Determination Letter and a description of the problems you encountered accessing the online application form.
